This may be one of the biggest freebies I’ve found yet! Please read the entire offer and do your own research.
Telly, a startup founded by Ilya Pozin (co-founder of Pluto TV), announced that it had opened a waitlist for its free dual-screen TV. The second, smaller screen sits below the main TV and soundbar and acts as a display for ads and widgets. While ads will stay out of the way while you’re watching TV, they could take over both screens when the TV is not in use.
Before posting, I did a little research into this because we’ve all heard the old adage “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is”. However, this does seem to be a free TV offer with the exception that you would receiving the TV in exchange for allowing Telly to monitor when & how you use your TV, including “your search queries, settings preferences, applications you open, purchases or other transactions you make, buttons your select, the time, frequency and duration of your activities, the physical presence of you & any other individuals using the TV at any given time (through a passive motion sensor to track the physical presence of people using the TV), and other usage data.
While many smart TV’s already collect this data, there are always settings in which users can turn off the data collection. If you opt out of the monitoring, you’ll have to return the TV or pay the company $500. If you are comfortable with the ads and data collection, and want a free 55-inch TV.. then this is the biggest freebie we’ve had yet!
