I have not yet participated in any outreach programs, such as prison ministry. However, I shared last year that I had a strong calling from God to use my Mommy Love Media platform to share more about faith and using this as my ministry outreach.
When I received an email about sharing a prison fellowship and restoration story I was, if I’m being completely honest, quite confused on whether I should accept this type of review at first. Aside from Mommy Love Media, I work full time in Law Enforcement. My husband is a Major Crimes Detective. The things we hear and see daily make it hard at times to accept that people truly change. Not that I am not strong in my faith or don’t believe that my God can work miracles – He most certainly can. Statistically, most people released from prison re-offend and are back in prison within two years.
However, God has always provided me stories and products that He wants me to share and I’m always humbled by the grace he shows me in these stories.
More about The Restoration Series: Jonathan’s Walk“
Jonathan has been in prison. As a result, he has missed milestone moments with his family. He wasn’t there for his daugher’s first day of school or a thousand little experiences with his wife and as a father, he is devastated to be seperated from those he loves most.
Jonathan has been looking forward to his release from prison for over a decade. So many life events have been missed and he is now ready to be with his wife and kids again. Of course, this transition isn’t going to be easy. The odds are against him with over half of prisoners returning to prison within two years, Jonathan is aware of the challenges set before him.
Still, he is determined to take the skills he has learned into the world outside of incarceration and stay there, helping build the community that he is part of for years to come.
Prison Fellowship presents The Restoration Series: Jonathan’s Walk, a 5-part documentary film series following one man as he re-enters his community after 15 years in prison. It demonstrates in imagery, powerful storytelling and social interaction what it means to be humand and the shared need of all people to communities restored.
Though America is home to only 4% of the world’s population, we house more than 20% of its prisoners. Recidivism-the tendency of a criminal to reoffend-is out of control. The Restoration Series tells the story of men and women who have experienced The Academy, a revolutionary in-prison program that is combatting incarceration and recidividsm head on.”
While I have only previewed the upcoming series The Restoration Series: Jonathan’s Walk from Prison Fellowship, this is a story that I am excited to hear more about. I found myself drawn in to the story and hoping for the best outcome for him. Even though I work in Law Enforcement – that doesn’t mean that I don’t want people to truly learn from their mistakes during their prison time. Do I believe that prison sentences are necessary? Absolutely. But after previewing this series, I also believe that people can beat that statistic of a life of reoccurring crime and be the best for their family.
