If you don’t believe in the power of God’s timing, I hope you will have a little inspiration after hearing my little story. One of my favorite ways to sneak in quality time with my husband is watching movies. Finding time for my husband and I has become increasingly hard lately – something we are working on. We both started back at college in August, my husband was promoted to Detective (SO proud of him!) a week later, which meant a training schedule that did not allow him to leave our county or take vacation and he was on-call EVERY night… it also meant LOTS of additional training. We still had three kids to take care of, get to school, soccer practice twice a week, travel soccer games.. I think you get the idea.. Oh, and throw in Hurricane Michael that tore thru the top of our state (very devasting!) that required my husband to deploy for security and search & rescue – it really meant saying hi and I love you either in passing or by phone most days. My husband and I decided that we were going to take a weekend to ourselves and attend a marriage retreat. We booked the room, booked the babysitters and really made it a point to focus on us. This is hard to admit, but with the all the business and chaos that seemed to surround our daily lives lately.. we also haven’t been attending church regularly. While I do not believe that you need to attend church to be a Christian, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” – Matthew 18:20, I do believe you need Christ in your life and especially your marriage. And when you are failing at finding time for Him, He finds ways to remind you that He is still there. My husband and I were at the marriage retreat when we had the opportunity to watch this incredible movie – talk about perfect timing! The message in this movie focused on the profound love of God and the importance of God’s role in building a strong family foundation.
Aside from what this movie showed me about my own marriage, I was also incredibly inspired by the wife in this movie for another reason. First, I have the greatest admiration and respect for military families. Not only for serving our country courageously and unselfishly, but their families as well – THANK YOU! Being a police officer’s wife is difficult. My husband faces people everyday that are against him simply because of the uniform he wears. The sweetest sound I hear every day is the sound of the velcro as he takes off his bulletproof vest because it means he is home safe. The worry and stress I feel during an 8 hour shift can’t compare to months of that for military families. When my husband was deployed for Hurricane Michael there were times that I was not able to speak to him because communications in that area were either very limited or out – that was only a week! I couldn’t imagine not being able to speak or see my husband for months at a time. I don’t know how military families do this, but you are so strong!
While I can’t relate to being a military family, I can relate to some aspectes that are similar in police families – the stress, the current war our husbands are fighting, the PTSD. This movie is truly a MUST SEE for ALL marriages! Military, and in my opinion, police families will probably relate the most to some content, but ALL marriages will definitely reap the benefits of the messages shared throughout this movie. I’ve done quite a few movie reviews and this movie is definitely #1 that I’ve reviewed!
